Best Bars in Dubrovnik, Croatia

October 10, 2018

Our first night in Dubrovnik, we went into the city with absolutely no idea where we were going. Luckily enough for us, we spotted a big crowd in one of the small side streets along the main street and joined in as it started clearing out. Everyone was hammered and soon enough we realized we had walked into a pub crawl after talking to two guys who just so happened to be the guides. We immediately knew we hit the jackpot and got all the insides of what to do that night, especially since I spoke to them in Croatian so they couldn’t just treat me like a tourist and steal my money. I’ll tell you guys all about that and some other places with the best vibes for both day drinking and going out:

Buzz Bar

Prijeko ul. 21, 20000, Dubrovnik, Croatia

This was the meetup spot where they offer unlimited drinks for a couple hours. This place gets extremely crowded at the time of the pub crawl and people get pretty rowdy. Everyone or at least the majority of people are on vacation in Dubrovnik, including the tour guides, servers, bartenders, etc. So the vibe is always very hype and laid back.

Buzz Bar is also really cool during the day time because they have giant beer things that you can share among a group of friends. The weird thing is, Buzz Bar is almost unrecognizable during the day because the amount of people there is almost cut in half. As Americans, we just wanted to drink a little during the day then explore with a buzz - hence the name.

Casablanca

Zamanjina ul. 7, 20000, Dubrovnik, Croatia

Casablanca is the second stop at the bar crawl and it’s very similar to Buzz Bar in terms of environment. Both bars are found in little side streets so when it’s really crowded on the inside, people tend to stand on the steps or even sit on little floor mats. We actually hung out here during the Croatia vs. Russia game this past summer during the World Cup and then ran out once we won to the main square which the little street connects to.

Revelin

Ul. Svetog Dominika 3, 20000, Dubrovnik, Croatia

I’ll be honest, I am not a club person, but this place was completely different than the clubs I’ve experienced in the United States. Revelin is the last stop of the Pub Crawl and this place is definitely the city’s favorite club. If you arrive before 12, entry is free so it’s definitely worth planning out that way. This place is literally inside of the medieval walls that surround the city and when you look up at any point you can see the stop ceiling above you. It’s amazing. Another thing that’s pretty cool about this place, if you’re like me, is that they actually play music that you can listen to rather than the EDM type of music only people on drugs can tolerate. The crowd was very international, including tons of Australians, Americans, and Brits. Besides that, everyone speaks english so it’s really easy to make friends.

Buza Bar

Crijevićeva ul. 9, 20000, Dubrovnik, Croatia

The way we found Buza bar was actually the result of incredible marketing on their part. Basically, we were exploring with no map or destination in mind and while melting in the summer heat, we saw a simple wooden sign on the stone wall that said “Follow this sign for great drinks and the best view”. This was probably the most spot on thing we were looking for, so we followed the signs up some steps and through a small door which opened up into a small bar on the side of a steep cliff outside of the walls. We saw this and just though “Oh hell yeah” and grabbed a seat. The drinks here are pretty averagely priced to U.S. standards and the menu was mostly beer and little wine bottles. We actually got pretty lucky because one of the servers was actually a friend we made the night before at Revelin, so he greeted us with a couple beers on him. The crowd was mostly consisting of tourists and you’re tightly packed between them, but everyone is so friendly that nobody even cared. Everyone was entertained by people jumping off the cliff in front of us which was maybe like 50 feet high.

Above 5 Rooftop Bar

Ul. od Sigurate 4, 20000, Dubrovnik, Croatia

This bar is definitely a lot more expensive than the others, but the view is totally worth it. I honestly didn’t know what this bar was called until I looked it up, because when I saw a sign that said “Rooftop Bar” I had zero hesitation. Basically you walk up several floors through a little hotel and find yourself on a rooftop terrace with a 360 view of the old town of Dubrovnik. We were actually speechless and it got us feeling very, very luxurious. I felt so good I bought my friends an $80 bottle of wine - my friends being my best friend and a kid from South Carolina who we just met at Buza bar. The service was very professional but if you try to make friends with them, they have some great stories to tell about famous customers and nice things to do around the city.

Bar Dodo

Ul. od Tabakarije 41, 20000, Dubrovnik, Croatia

Just outside of the walls, it’s a much more chill area where people are looking for beaches and nice views. Me and my best friend were looking for exactly that when we stumbled upon this perfect little bar with swings that faced a little inner-cliff beach. We planned on jumping in the water when we left our house, but once we settled into the stairs we felt no need to ever leave. We were at our prime level of happiness and barely felt the need to have conversations, as the environment spoke for itself. Cliffs, a cool breeze, flowers and nice music. A very good spot to cure a hangover with a refreshing strawberry mojito.

I just want to end this with a statement: Dubrovnik is by far my absolutely favorite place for not only single people in their 20’s, but also people on honeymoons, retired couples, or anyone looking to have a good time without feeling dirty about it. The environment itself cures every hangover and makes you keep going.
